In 2020, the musical duo Dean & Britta, featuring Dean Wareham from Galaxie 500 and his wife Britta Phillips, collaborated with Sonic Boom (also known as Peter Kember from Spacemen 3) to create some holiday music. They are reuniting for a full holiday album that will be released next month, with the single “Pretty Paper” already available.
The upcoming album, A Peace Of Us, is described in the press release as a mix of influences, including early ‘60s pop, garage sounds, country, James Bond film scores, Christmas carols, and electronic music. As for “Pretty Paper,” Dean Wareham notes, “This song was originally a hit for Roy Orbison in 1963. While it has a beautiful melody, the story behind the lyrics—about a man selling ribbons and paper alone outside a department store—is quite melancholic.”
