Cloud Nothings Release Misfits Covers

Indie rock band Cloud Nothings, who recently joined Pure Noise Records, have unveiled their latest project—Final Summer, their inaugural album under the label. To celebrate, they’ve contributed to Dead Formats Vol. 3, a compilation of cover songs sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. Their chosen track? A classic from the punk band Misfits, perfect for the Halloween season.

The Misfits first launched their iconic track “Halloween” in 1981, a staple in many Halloween playlists where its chilling lyrics about eerie scenarios have become well-known. For Dead Formats, Cloud Nothings not only cover “Halloween” but also the haunting B-side “Halloween II.” Dylan Baldi, the frontman of Cloud Nothings, mentioned in a press release that this marks only their second cover song ever recorded—although technically, it’s not entirely true. This is what he shared:

Our previous cover was Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back In Town” back in 2013. My knowledge of what Phil Lynott was like is limited, and I can admit I’d prefer to know less about Glenn Danzig, so I find it amusing that our only two covers are “The Boys Are Back in Town” and both “Halloween” tracks. It’s a true reflection of us, embodying Danzig’s spirit: Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween.
