Sub Pop is honoring the late Margo Guryan, a beloved singer-songwriter who passed away in 2021, by releasing a compilation album featuring covers titled Like Someone I Know. This album includes tributes from a variety of contemporary artists such as Empress Of, TOPS, and Frankie Cosmos. Ahead of the album’s release next month, Clairo’s cover of “Love Songs” has just been unveiled.
Prior to her death, Guryan recorded “Love Songs” in two different styles—one primarily acoustic and the other incorporating more rhythmic elements. Clairo’s version aligns closely with the latter style. The track was produced by Leon Michaels, who contributed to Clairo’s recent album Charm, and it has a vibe that fits well as an additional track on that project. You can check out both Clairo’s version and Guryan’s original below.
Like Someone I Know: A Celebration Of Margo Guryan is set to be released on November 8 through Sub Pop.
