Bryan Ferry Unveils First Original Song in Ten Years Co-Written By Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross

Bryan Ferry Shares First New Song In A Decade Which “Began As A Sketch By Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross”

In the upcoming box set Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023, Bryan Ferry, the innovator of Roxy Music, will showcase his solo career over the last fifty years. From the box set, the rendition of Bob Dylan’s “She Belongs To Me” was unveiled and introduced “Star,” as Ferry’s latest solo piece in a decade. Today, he releases “Star,” a collaboration with Glasgow artist Amelia Barratt and also involving Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails.

When Ferry initially announced the Retrospective, he did not mention Reznor and Ross’ contribution. However, as per a press statement, “Star” was initially conceived “as a sketch by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.” Although Reznor and Ross are not officially credited with songwriting or production on “Star,” they are acknowledged for drum programming and bass on Spotify. The thought of Reznor working with iconic glam-rock figures like Ferry after their collaborations with David Bowie in the ’90s is intriguing.

“Star” is a pulsating electro-pop track that resonates with undertones of Nine Inch Nails influence, combined with Bryan Ferry’s signature ’80s synthetic charm. Ferry and Barratt deliver the compelling lyrics in unison, exuding a notably chic vibe. This marks Ferry’s original work since his 2014 album, Avonmore. The stylish sci-fi video for the song, co-directed by Ferry and James Garzke, features Barratt. Watch it below.

The box set Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023 will be available on 10/25 via BMG.
