Superstar this isn’t. This is another beast entirely. This album is a deeply personal experience of mental health and a failed relationship, an introspective dive into oneself, and the journey of a lost soul after heartbreak. Though there are few songs that can get you up and make you full-body dance like LONER and Superstar, it wasn’t made to be that. Caroline evolves with every album, and The Art of Forgetting is meant to be an experience from beginning to end. Though people will miss the fun and quirkiness of Caroline’s past work, seeing a more honest side of such a character is a beautiful thing. This is their most artistic album, their most creative, their most emotional, their most honest, and their most powerful. This should be played as loud as you can handle, there are so many sonic details. For me, every emotion lies within this record, and it’s really quite a rollercoaster in that way. It’s just an odyssey of gorgeous sound and incredible musicianship. I adore Superstar, but I genuinely can’t believe this is the same artist who made that. Kudos to Caroline. They evolve with every output. I know that people will miss the sounds that made them dance, but I see nothing boring in this record. We were told it was an album that would make us feel, and it did. God, some of the stuff in here, just…I don’t know how you can hear Jill Says and not want to shed a tear… It was an agonizing wait for The Art of Forgetting, but I can confidently say this is their best work, and I really hope you give it a chance and allow it multiple listens to let it all soak in. ALSO THAT FINALE. Heck yes, this is why I love music!
