Seun Kuti and his band, Egypt 80, have revealed that they are working with Lenny Kravitz as an executive producer for their upcoming album. They will be teaming up with producer and engineer Sodi Marciszewer, known for his work with Fela Kuti and Femi Kuti.
The collaboration has been described as a show of brotherly love and respect by Seun Kuti, who expresses deep gratitude towards Lenny Kravitz for his involvement. The album is set to be released on October 4 through Record Kicks and distributed by Secretly.
Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 North American Tour
Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 have unveiled their 2024 North American tour dates. The tour, consisting of 18 shows, marks their return to the stage after a hiatus since 2022.
Presented by Django Music, the tour will feature performances at notable venues like the Portland House of Music and Levitt Pavilion. It kicks off on June 8 at the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival and wraps up on July 28 at the Nelsonville Music Festival.
Throughout the tour, fans can expect to experience the band’s vibrant sound, which blends Afrobeat rhythms and political messages inherited from Fela Kuti. Seun Kuti and Egypt 80’s lineup includes original members who played with Fela, enriching their performances with a mix of influences from across Africa.
Having released their last album, “Black Times,” in 2018 and an EP titled “African Dreams” in 2022 featuring Black Thought, the band’s tour aims to showcase their mastery and global music appeal.
