In August 2024, CKay, the singer-producer, launched his management and publishing company called Boyfriend Music Ltd in Lagos. This move marks a significant milestone as it originates from the release of his influential “Boyfriend” EP back in 2021, which has now evolved into a business venture. Boyfriend Music Ltd is not limited to local artists only; it has expanded its services globally by establishing a U.S. branch named Boyfrnd Music LLC, catering to artists, songwriters, and producers worldwide.

Boyfriend Music Ltd was co-founded by CKay, whose real name is Chukwuma Ekweani, and Joseph Salubi, CKay’s childhood friend from Kaduna State. This music company is dedicated to supporting young and emerging artists, songwriters, and producers in advancing their careers. The primary focus of Boyfriend Music Ltd is to ensure fair royalties through its music publishing division. Their Artist and Repertoire (A&R) services involve identifying and nurturing talents to help them realize their full potential. Additionally, the management segment of Boyfriend Music Ltd offers tailored management services and strategic plans to assist aspiring artists in their professional journeys.
CKay, the CEO, stated that Boyfriend Music Ltd is dedicated to establishing a trustworthy and supportive environment where artists, songwriters, and producers can concentrate on their creative endeavors while leaving the complexities of management and music publishing to the company. He emphasized the importance of providing artists with a team that respects their vision without exploiting them.
Joseph Solubi, the managing director of the company, expressed, “Our mutual love for music and shared history has driven us to establish a company that genuinely supports creators in every aspect of their careers. At Boyfriend Music Ltd., we empower artists by ensuring they receive their rightful royalties and by offering the necessary resources and guidance for creative success.”
CKay now joins the league of artists such as Olamide, TheWeeknd, and Davido who have founded their record labels and music companies to serve as platforms for artists to achieve their full potential.
