The BET Hip Hop Awards 2024 nominees have been revealed, and it’s an exciting year with notable female representation in the Hip Hop Artist of the Year category. Additionally, there’s strong recognition for African artists this year.
African music giant Burna Boy has received a nomination for Best Live Performer. He will be competing against international stars such as Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Busta Rhymes, and Megan Thee Stallion, which highlights the global competition.
Burna Boy has a solid shot at this award, as his highly successful international tours are known for being sold-out, and his unique Afrofusion style resonates worldwide through captivating performances.
In the Best International Flow category, ODUMODUBLVCK joins the South African duo of Maglera Doe Boy and Blxckie. They will be competing against artists from the U.K., including Ghetts and Stefflon Don, which adds further diversity to the nominations.
Earlier this July, several African talents were recognized at the BET Awards, with Tyla winning both Best International Act and Best New Act, while South Africa’s Makhadzi was awarded Best New International Act. Additionally, Nigerian artist Tems received the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel / Inspirational Record for her song “Me & U.”
If the BET Hip Hop Awards mirror the general awards, we can expect more accolades for African artists. The ceremony is set to kick off on October 8 and will air on October 15 in Las Vegas for the first time.
“BET is thrilled to showcase the BET Hip Hop Awards in a city celebrated for its dynamic ambiance and rich entertainment legacy,” stated Scott Mills, CEO of BET, in his announcement. “Las Vegas’ vibrant culture wonderfully represents the innovation and storytelling woven into Black culture over the years.”
