Voxtrot has been busy since September, dropping tracks like “Another Fire,” “New World Romance,” and “My Peace.” Today, the band is unveiling “Esprit de Cœur,” their latest indie pop creation.
Accompanying the song is a music video, with frontman Ramesh Srivastava sharing:
In a unique twist, the protagonist struggles to conceptualize the video, engaging in various heroic scenarios inspired by well-known movies and genres like The Conversation, Wings of Desire, and film noir. After a period of creative block, celestial angels guide him towards transitioning from the mind to the heart, where true creativity resides.
Collaborating with director Ed Dougherty, cinematographer Taylor Washington, and their exceptional team was a delightful experience for us. It was thrilling to engage in such a professionally orchestrated production and dive into diverse characters and landscapes. All scenes were filmed in Austin and Lockhart, Texas.
Ramesh also shared insights on the inspiration behind the song itself:
“Esprit de Cœur” initially drew inspiration from a documentary on Charlie Chaplin, exploring his life both in and out of the limelight. The track delves into the transient nature of fame and youth, accompanied by the introspective journey that accompanies a career in entertainment.”
He delved into the themes within the song, referencing his time post-Voxtrot in Los Angeles, imaginary dialogues with Beat Generation writers, and Chaplin’s memorable speech in The Great Dictator. These elements reflect on the complexities of fame, success, and the intrinsic value of artistic expression.
Recently, Voxtrot participated in a pizza party concert in Hunter, NY with Stereogum and the Wild Honey Pie. Check out snapshots from the event and listen to their latest tune below.
