Last year marked the 50th anniversary of Haruomi Hosono’s debut solo album Hosono House. In honor of the Japanese pop icon, musicians like Mac DeMarco, Sam Gendel, John Carroll Kirby, Jerry Paper, and more are contributing to a compilation. DeMarco shared his version of “Boku Wa Chotto” in February, while Cornelius’ rendition of “Bara To Yaju” has been released today.
It’s shared by the label Stones Throw that Hosono and Cornelius first met back in 2001 when Hosono invited Cornelius onto his radio show. Years later, Cornelius became a guitarist in Hosono’s group Yellow Magic Orchestra. Although an official release date hasn’t been announced yet, the compilation is expected later this year. Besides this collaboration, Cornelius has also revealed a new EP titled Bad Advice/Mind Train which is set to launch on August 21. The EP features “Mind Train,” unveiled earlier this week. Listen to Cornelius’ cover of “Bara To Yaju” below.
