Silverbacks, known as a promising band and previously explored in-depth for their album Archive Material in 2022, have unveiled their new single “Selling Shovels.” The Irish-Belgian indie rock group continues to showcase their unique style and energetic sound.
Daniel O’Kelly from the band shares the inspiration behind the lyrics:
The lyrics for this song originated from a common habit of mine – perhaps a shared one. When I read about historical figures on Wikipedia, I tend to skip to the sections detailing their personal life and death to learn about the circumstances surrounding their passing. The song’s lyrics alternate between ordinary distractions and unsettling wartime imagery. The title “Selling Shovels” alludes to the concept of profiting during a gold rush by selling necessary tools.
