King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – “Le Risque”

The band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard returns with their 26th album titled Flight b741 set to be released this summer. Their latest single “Le Risque” provides a glimpse into their upcoming work.

During the creation of Flight b741 as a follow-up to the previous album, The Silver Cord, the band drew inspiration from The Band and early Steve Miller Band, leaning into classic blues rock influences. Contrary to their usual concept albums, this upcoming release is said to have no specific concept. Lead singer Stu Mackenzie shared the band’s approach:

The songs were developed collaboratively, with each member contributing to the overall theme. As each person added their part, it inspired the next, leading to a cohesive creation. The lyrics delve into introspective themes, exploring deeper and more universal topics, departing from their typical sci-fi focus to reflect on life experiences.

“Le Risque” marks drummer Michael Cavanagh’s vocal debut, accompanied by a music video directed by Guy Tyzack featuring the band in a real air hanger. The video can be viewed below.

Flight b741 will be released on 8/9 under the band’s own label, (p)doom records.
