Wayne Shorter’s New Album “Celebration, Volume 1” Features Cover of WarGames Theme

Blue Note Records recently announced the upcoming release of Celebration, Volume 1, the first album from the late Wayne Shorter. The lead single features his interpretation of the WarGames theme song, called “Edge of the World (End Title).”

Celebration, Volume 1 captures a live performance by Shorter, alongside pianist Danilo Perez, bassist John Patitucci, and drummer Brian Blade, during the 2014 Stockholm Jazz Festival in Sweden. Carolina Shorter shared her thoughts in the liner notes:

Rob Griffin sent Wayne a trove of unreleased music in 2022, which he eagerly immersed himself in, making detailed notes. Upon listening to the Stockholm concert, Wayne declared it as the album, and continued selecting tracks until he realized it would be a multi-record project. Originally named Unidentified Flying Objects, he eventually renamed it to Celebration in light of his terminal condition. His spirit of perseverance and celebration of life shine through the collection.
