Review of “Madeline” by Georgia Gets By

Georgia Gets By – “Madeline”

Georgia Nott, known for being part of the indie-pop duo Broods, ventured into her solo project called Georgia Gets By last year. Today, the talented musician from New Zealand is presenting her latest song, “Madeline,” along with a music video directed by Silken Weinberg.

In describing the song, Nott explained that “‘Madeline’ focuses on that pivotal moment when you encounter someone who you know will have a profound impact on you.” She elaborated:

You sense it deep within your gut and find yourself powerless against your emotions for them.

Collaborating with Silken Weinberg on the music video for “Madeline” was a fulfilling experience for me. Silken is my preferred partner in crafting visual realms due to her talent for capturing intensity in a way that balances between whimsical and heartbreaking. Our inspiration came from watching Alfred Hitchcock’s movies, particularly Spellbound. Influenced by the trailers for Hitchcock’s films and their skill in offering a glimpse into a much bigger narrative, we aimed to turn ‘Madeline’ into one of those windows. Just a peek into a universe where ‘Madeline’ could embody various forms like a ghost, a concept, or even a hallucination. The interpretation is left to the audience’s imagination.

“Madeline” is a sophisticated and expansive track with minimal but impactful lyrics like, “I’m dizzy and I’m cursed/ To never let you go/ You’re breaking my heart/ I love you for it though.” Be sure to check out the music video below.
