Review of “Hammer Of My Own” by Closebye

Closebye – “Hammer Of My Own”

Closebye, a band hailing from New York, presents a vibrant indie rock sound in their music. The band, which includes Margaux Bouchegnies among its members, is set to release their second album, “Hammer Of My Own,” in August. Today, they have unveiled the captivating title track from the upcoming album.

Influenced by the nineties Britpop era, Closebye’s music is characterized by lively hooks, rhythmic vigor, and a playful, sassy demeanor. While their style may be more mellow compared to bands like the Stone Roses, their songs still carry a strong impact. Band member Jonah Paul Smith describes “Hammer Of My Own” as a reflection of the journey towards self-reliance, tackling themes of blame-shifting, dependency, and ultimately realizing the importance of self-sufficiency.
