The dynamic duo Coco & Clair Clair are set to release their upcoming album Girl in August, following their previous album Sexy from 2022. In a recent statement, they shared the inspiration behind the album title and its creative concept:
During the initial phase of crafting this album, we jokingly referred to it as our “baby girl” as opposed to our previous project Sexy, which felt more like a “baby boy.” We delved into themes of relationships by revisiting and incorporating vulnerable or confessional lyrics we had written years ago. Our production style evolved to a more refined, deliberate, and intimate approach while maintaining our signature qualities of resourcefulness, confidence, and flamboyance. Drawing influence from artists like Saint Etienne, Brandy, Everything but the Girl, Lana Del Rey, Club 8, Milky, and Madonna, we explored the balance between these new elements and our original essence, embracing femininity and girlhood alongside masculine tropes. This phase deepened our bond as friends and collaborators, allowing us to access new creative facets within Coco & Clair Clair. We navigated with less worry but more care, embracing the power of femininity.
The lead single and closing track from the album, “Aggy,” is a captivating blend of misty synthpop melodies with an underlying hip-hop groove. The song encapsulates a whimsical essence, with lyrics centered around leaving troubles behind for a carefree night of enjoyment.
