Maren Morris is transitioning from country to pop with her upcoming EP, “Intermission,” set to be released in August. The EP marks a significant shift for the artist towards a more pop-oriented sound. One of the tracks, a duet with acclaimed pop songwriter Julia Michaels, sets the tone for this new direction.
“cut!” is a lively synth-pop collaboration that explores the facade people often maintain to appear composed and put-together. Morris describes the song as a reflection of the internal struggle to balance outward appearances with inner turmoil. She explains:
“cut!” delves into the act of portraying a flawless image during the day, while internally dealing with the need to release pent-up emotions at night. It’s about the societal pressure to keep up appearances while silently coping with personal challenges. This song serves as a reminder that it’s okay to feel vulnerable and seek solace in moments of vulnerability.

Intermission will be available on 8/2 through Columbia Records.
