Sad News: Nigerian Music Promoter Femi Esho Passes Away

The music industry in Nigeria is grieving the loss of Femi Esho, a renowned music promoter and the head of Evergreen Musical Company Limited. Esho, born on October 29, 1946, passed away in Lagos at the age of 77 after battling an undisclosed illness. The Esho family confirmed this devastating news through a statement issued by Mr. Bunmi Esho.

The statement announced the passing of Mr. Samuel Babafemi Esho, also known as “Baba Esho” or “Baba Musician”, who was the Chairman of Evergreen Musical Company and the Founder of Evergreen Music Heritage Foundation. Described as a mentor and encyclopaedia to many Highlife music enthusiasts, he will be remembered for his dedication to preserving the Nigerian Highlife, Juju, Sakara, Apala, Afrobeat, and other African musical genres.

Friends and colleagues lamented the loss of Esho, highlighting his impact on the national music scene. Tunde Fagbenle, a writer and columnist, shared, “He has gone to rest. He carved a niche for himself and made a mark on the national canvas with it. He was a gentle, cheerful and giving soul. God bless him. He was my buddy!”

Not long ago, Esho had unveiled plans for the Evergreen Music Heritage Foundation in partnership with Dr. Daniel Olukoya, the founder of Mountain of Fire Miracles Ministry (MFM). The foundation, spearheaded by Esho’s daughter Bimbo, aims to establish a music library, museum, cinema, recording studio, and event center.
