A new album by American artist, PJ Morton, has been launched under the title Cape Town to Cairo. This 9-track album sets itself apart from Morton’s previous works as he crafted it during a 30-day exploration across Africa. Notably, featured on Cape Town to Cairo are Nigerian artists and producers such as Asa, Fireboy, Made Kuti, The Cavemen, and P.Priime, as well as South African talents Ndabo Zulu and the Soweto Spiritual Singers.
When discussing the album’s creative process, Morton revealed, “I aimed to encapsulate the feelings I experienced while on the continent, hence, I made a pact not to write any songs before my arrival in Africa, nor after my departure – I even recorded all vocals before leaving. This approach was about trusting my instincts and sparking genuine emotions in the music, devoid of overthinking, and reflecting my raw thoughts and musical influences.”
Accompanied by his band, Morton is set to kick off a global tour named “Cape Town to Cairo.” Furthermore, fans can look forward to a memoir and documentary by the artist later this year.
