Spirit Of The Beehive, known for their psych rock/noise pop music, will be releasing their fifth studio album titled You’ll Have To Lose Something. This album follows their previous EP i’m so lucky and their last full-length album Entertainment, Death, which was recognized in the 50 Best Albums Of 2021. Preceding the album’s release in August via Saddle Creek, they have introduced the lead single “Let The Virgin Drive.”
The song “Let The Virgin Drive” portrays a more mellow tone compared to their previous work on Entertainment, Death, though the band remains true to their unique style. The track opens with exaggerated Auto-Tuned vocals before transitioning into a relaxed acoustic guitar melody. Incorporating samples of Japanese city pop and a chilling scream, Zack Schwartz from the band explains the song’s theme of unreciprocated love and the tendency to create imaginary scenarios to solve personal issues. The song’s title, possibly inspired by the movie Clueless, was not further elaborated in the press release.
The release of “Let The Virgin Drive” is accompanied by a haunting music video reminiscent of a Yorgos Lanthimos film. Below is the video link along with the tracklist of You’ll Have To Lose Something and details of Spirit Of The Beehive’s upcoming tour.
