In the past year, the ethereal duo Wings Of Desire, comprising former INHEAVEN members James Taylor and Chloe Little, launched Life Is Infinite, a full-length release of their previously online shared tracks. Today, they reveal their intention to follow up with Shut Up & Listen, a new benefit EP slated for release later this summer.
Hailing from Stroud, UK, both members of Wings Of Desire are dedicated to supporting their local community through the Shut Up & Listen EP, which aims to aid the Long Table, a community initiative in Stroud, providing meals on a pay-what-you-can basis. In response to the threat of eviction facing the Long Table, Wings Of Desire not only assist in keeping it operational but are also performing at a free show on 7/5. They have unveiled their energetic new track “OUTTAMYMIND,” infused with a distinctive krautrock vibe. The band shared their thoughts on the project:
Recognizing the vital role grassroots organizations play in communities, particularly in supporting the most marginalized, we advocate for preserving new models of social enterprises that promote well-being. The Long Table stands at the heart of our local community, operating on a pay-what-you-can system, serving approximately 40,000 hot meals annually. It stands for dignity, equality, and mutual support among neighbors in need. However, earlier this year, their location at Brimscombe Mill was sold, placing it in imminent danger of conversion into warehouse space by the new owner.
The creation of the Shut Up & Listen EP stemmed from our desire to safeguard this significant space and uphold our exceptional local community, which we consider a sanctuary. We have curated a limited edition cassette tape, with all proceeds directed to the Long Table to aid in their fight against eviction.
Embracing the ethos of inclusivity, we adopt a pay-what-you-can model, ensuring that just as basic human needs should be accessible to all, creativity should also be within reach…
“OUTTAMYMIND” delves into themes of reincarnation, parallel lives, and the Mandela effect, prompting reflection on our myriad past existences and experiences. It challenges us to lead lives devoid of self-destructive desires, minimizing harm to ourselves, others, and the environment. The song invites us to ponder the idea of living fearlessly and with perpetual awe.
