Stream Boycomma’s Cathartic New EP Stress Starving

The band Boycomma, based in California, gained attention as our previous Band To Watch with their impressive debut album Use Me (in memory of) last year. They continue to impress with their latest offering, the EP called Stress Starving, released on Friday under Tormented Records.

Despite being composed of only six tracks, Stress Starving features intriguing song titles like “I LOVE E SEX” and “MEOWING IN PUBLIC.” The lead singer, Brad Warriner, delves into deep introspection, particularly evident in the alt-rock anthem “GRAPEFRUIT” with poignant lyrics like, “Maybe I’m too sympathetic/ Maybe I’m just full of shit.” The track “MEOWING IN PUBLIC” surprises listeners with a sudden metal breakdown, leading into the touching ballad “J ELLA” where Warriner emotionally sings about personal struggles. The EP concludes with “EAT ME ALIVE,” a song that reveals Warriner’s reflections:

Within the song, the lyrics draw inspiration from a Pinegrove lyric that resonated with me deeply. It revolves around the feeling of being unheard, a sentiment many can relate to.

The central query, “Are you even listening?” conveys the frustration of feeling overlooked and unheard, especially in moments of rejection. The emotional impact of feeling unheard can be profound and overwhelming, questioning the efforts made in relationships.
