Straw Man Army, a New York-based DIY post-punk duo, gained attention two years ago with their album SOS. Now, they’re set to release a new album titled Earthworks next month, completing a trilogy that commenced with their debut album Age Of Exile in 2020. The initial singles from the upcoming LP are impressive.
The two tracks, “Look Alive” and “Extinction Burst,” combine elements of tension and contemplation. “Look Alive” features a krautrock-inspired rhythm with complex guitar work and forceful lyrics pointing to the impermanence of America. In contrast, “Extinction Burst” is quicker and more fragmented, influenced by Fugazi’s style. You can listen to both singles below, along with the complete Earthworks tracklist.
