Recently, the vibrant Kesha made an appearance in Charli XCX’s remix of “Spring Breakers.” Now, she is back with a unique project: a cover as part of Spotify’s new Christmas singles series, featuring a classic tune that isn’t traditionally associated with the holiday season.
The upbeat rock track “Holiday Road,” penned by Lindsey Buckingham for the 1983 film National Lampoon’s Vacation, is closely tied to the humorous escapades of Chevy Chase’s character. Although not a major hit, the song reappeared in various Vacation sequels, including the Christmas installment, which may explain its inclusion in a holiday collection. Kesha has now put her own spin on this classic.
Her new version of “Holiday Road” infuses a synth-driven new wave vibe reminiscent of Kim Wilde’s “Kids In America,” marking the first release in this year’s lineup of Spotify Christmas tracks. According to Billboard, the series will also feature contributions from artists like Dasha and Max Richter.
