Sponge Delivers Haunting Interpretation of “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star

Sponge – “Fade Into You” (Mazzy Star Cover)

Sponge recently revealed plans for a covers album that features tracks from 1994, kicking off with a unique rendition of Morrissey’s “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get.” Now, the Detroit alternative rock band is unveiling their version of Mazzy Star’s timeless song “Fade Into You.”

Vinnie Dombroski, the band’s lead vocalist, expressed his enthusiasm: “‘Fade Into You’ is an AMAZING TRACK,” emphasizing that its unconventional nature makes it a fascinating challenge for them. While covering hits from bands like Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains might seem like the obvious route for Sponge, this choice showcases a different dimension of their artistry.

In order to complement the powerful essence of the original, Sponge released an evocative music video directed by Drew Fortier and Hannah Fierman. Check it out below.

1994 will be available soon through Cleopatra Records.
