Elvis Costello and T Bone Burnett Join Forces for Whimsical Coward Brothers Musical Comedy Podcast and Album

Elvis Costello & T Bone Burnett Reunite For The Coward Brothers Musical Comedy Podcast & Album

Elvis Costello and T Bone Burnett have a long-standing collaborative history. Notably, Burnett produced Costello’s acclaimed album King Of America, which is soon to be re-released in a special edition. Their partnership dates back even further to a 1985 single titled “The People’s Limousine,” released under the name the Coward Brothers. Both artists continue to stay active; last spring, Burnett unveiled The Other Side, marking his first solo effort in nearly two decades. Now, they have revived their Coward Brothers persona, producing a new album along with a scripted comedy podcast.

This new Coward Brothers project features Costello and Burnett as characters named Henry and Howard Coward, two con artists, potentially related by blood. Their upcoming self-titled album features 20 tracks and celebrates their love for vintage rock ‘n’ roll. The lead single “Always” has been released, showcasing beautiful harmonies complemented by minimalistic guitar and string arrangements. On streaming platforms, Henry and Howard Coward are credited as both the writers and producers of the song.

As for their podcast, it promises to be quite significant. The series is penned by Elvis Costello and directed by renowned comedic filmmaker Christopher Guest. Alongside Costello and Burnett, notable actors like Harry Shearer from The Simpsons, Rhea Seehorn from Better Call Saul, and Stephen Root lend their talents. The show is exclusive to Audible and launches simultaneously with the album. Below, you can listen to “Always” and view the album’s tracklist.
