Katie Malco Collaborates with SOAK on Captivating New Single “Babette”

Katie Malco – “Babette” (Feat. SOAK)

Katie Malco made her return in July with “Fatal Attraction,” a collaboration with Laura Stevenson, marking her first release since her 2020 album Failures. Recently, she unveiled a new track titled “Babette,” featuring SOAK.

Malco shared that the inspiration for “Babette” stemmed from a call that left her feeling misunderstood and disconnected. “I felt I didn’t say any of the right things and couldn’t fit into their world once we hung up,” she explained.

She reflected on social interactions, expressing her struggle with feeling either too reserved or overly loud, which affects her fitting in. “Writing ‘Babette’ made me realize how helpless I felt about my extreme personality traits,” she admitted.

SOAK, whose real name is Bridie Monds-Watson, reminisced about their travels across North America. “When Katie started playing ‘Babette’ each night, the feeling of relief was instant. We not only managed to find our venues but also experienced the joy of performing for supportive audiences in unfamiliar places,” she shared.
