Mdou Moctar Unveils Acoustic Version of His Latest Album

Mdou Moctar Announce Acoustic Reworking Of Latest Album

This past May, Mdou Moctar debuted their album Funeral For Justice, which was honored as our Album Of The Week. Now, they are set to release Tears Of Injustice, an acoustic reworking of that album, scheduled for February.

Originally, the band intended to create a companion album alongside Funeral For Justice before its release. The need for this project grew when they found themselves unable to return home due to a military coup in Niger. They began to record Tears Of Injustice at Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, just two days after completing their tour.

Mikey Coltun, the bassist and producer based in the US, shared, “We wanted to create a distinct version of Funeral for our audience. We often experiment with different arrangements during performances. This time, we aimed to showcase that versatility in a recorded format as well.” He emphasized that their approach to arranging the songs was spontaneous, often discovering the right feel during their studio sessions.

The track “Imajighen (Injustice Version)” has been released and is available for listening below.
