The Hemlock Ernst project continues to evolve. Samuel T. Herring from Future Islands has been working on his indie-rap persona, Hemlock Ernst, for several years. He is set to release a new album titled Studying Absence, collaborating with producer Icky Reels. We’ve already featured the lead song “Raised In The South,” and the collaboration with ELUCID called “Remains.” Today, Herring unveils another new track that includes contributions from some of his innovative rap collaborators.
The newest single, “Old Dead Dogs,” features New Jersey’s Fatboi Sharif and the seasoned MC Beans, known for his work with Antipop Consortium (not to be confused with Beanie Sigel). Beans is also associated with the upcoming release of Studying Absence under his Tygr Rawwk Rcrds label, while Fatboi Sharif recently released his project titled Brain Candy alongside Fat Tony and producer Steel Tipped Dove.
In “Old Dead Dogs,” Hemlock Ernst presents a lively, imagery-rich verse, blending his singing and rapping styles, suggesting a possible future fusion of both. The eerie, rhythmic beat complements his delivery effectively, and the combination of his style alongside Beans’ energetic flow and Fatboi Sharif’s quirky tone creates a dynamic chemistry. Be sure to check it out below.
Look out for Studying Absence, releasing on 10/16 through Tygr Rawwk Rcrds.
