Jerkova, a former member of Regional Justice Center, is at the forefront of Punitive Damage, a high-energy hardcore punk group from the Pacific Northwest. After their impressive debut LP This Is The Blackout released two years ago, they are back with a new EP titled Hate Training, which addresses the brutal actions of Israel towards Palestine.
The Hate Training EP was recorded with help from Jesse Gander, known for his work with Japandroids, and mixed by Taylor Young, another member of Regional Justice Center and affiliated with bands like Twitching Tongues and God’s Hate. Featured on the EP is Jess Nyx, leader of Mortality Rate/World Of Pleasure, lending vocals to one of the tracks. The lead single “Baptism Of Fire” is a quick yet powerful track, packing a punch in under 90 seconds. Here’s Jerkova’s perspective on the EP:
Throughout history, we repeatedly fall victim to the ‘hate training’ pushed onto us. From the oppression of Indigenous peoples in the Americas to the atrocities of the Third Reich, the Vietnam War, and the War on Terror, we are led to believe we must eliminate a so-called “subhuman enemy.” We comply blindly, only to realize later how we were misled and vow to prevent such occurrences again. Despite promising to learn from our past, we find ourselves back in the same cycle.
