Jamie xx Drops Captivating New Track “Waited All Night” Featuring Romy and Oliver Sim

Jamie xx – “Waited All Night” (Feat. Romy & Oliver Sim)

It has been nearly eight years since the xx last released an album, I See You. During this period, each member has explored solo projects and collaborated with one another. Earlier this year, Romy mentioned that they have reconvened in the studio to work on new music. While details about the upcoming album remain scarce, the trio has collaborated on Jamie xx’s latest single.

Soon, Jamie xx will unveil his much-anticipated album In Waves, a follow-up to his acclaimed 2015 debut In Colour. I’ve had a chance to listen to In Waves and can confirm it’s impressive. This new album features a number of collaborations, including singles like “Treat Each Other Right,” “Life” featuring Robyn, “All You Children” with the Avalanches, and “Dafodil” with Kelsey Lu, Panda Bear, and John Glacier. Today, we’re able to experience “Waited All Night,” a song that sees Jamie xx reuniting with his former bandmates Oliver Sim and Romy.

Importantly, “Waited All Night” doesn’t carry the signature sound of the xx, unless they’re pursuing a bold new direction in their next project. Rather, it showcases Jamie xx’s distinctive dance style with the contributions of his fellow members on vocals. It features a powerful bassline, an energetic breakbeat, and an infectious “da da da da” chorus from Romy. The synergy between the artists is evident, making for a track that packs a punch. Honestly, it wouldn’t be disappointing if the next xx album leaned in this direction.

In a statement, Jamie xx expressed gratitude to Oliver and Romy, saying, “Thank you to my two best friends and musical siblings. It’s been wonderful reuniting with the gang, exploring new ways of working together; I wouldn’t be here without them.” Sim and Romy shared their excitement as well, noting, “We’ve enjoyed collaborating on our solo projects, but it’s been some time since we shared a track. We’re thrilled this is where we reconvened. We’re so proud to play a small part in this highly anticipated album, Jamie!” You can listen to the track below.

In Waves will be released on September 20 under Young.
