Exciting news! The iconic debut album by Talking Heads, Talking Heads: 77, is set to be reissued in a special deluxe edition. This package, Talking Heads: 77 (Super Deluxe Edition), features four vinyl records, an additional four 7″ singles, and a beautifully crafted 80-page hardcover book, all bundled in a collectible box, arriving this November.
The details for the vinyl records are as follows: The first disc offers a remastered version of the original album. The second disc showcases rare tracks, demos, and outtakes, including 13 previously unreleased items. The third and fourth discs capture a complete live performance from the legendary CBGB venue in New York City on October 10, 1977 — a real treat for fans! Notably found in the second disc’s rarities is an acoustic version of “Psycho Killer” featuring Arthur Russell, which has long been available online. Byrne reflected on this collaboration:
Arthur Russell was part of the downtown music scene we were embedded in. His life was cut short by AIDS, but he left a diverse catalogue of music behind— from ethereal soundscapes in ‘World of Echo’ to dance tracks as Dinosaur L. I had the privilege to hear him perform Philip Glass for a Mabou Mines adaptation of a Beckett piece, likely to the dismay of Beckett’s estate due to music being involved. So, it felt natural to ask him to create an alternate take on “Psycho Killer.” I always viewed the song as an intimate folk-rock ballad instead of the upbeat rock hit many enjoyed, which is why this version resonates closely with me.
