Chubby And The Gang – “Cocaine Sunday”

Chubby And The Gang Drops New Song “Cocaine Sunday”

Chubby And The Gang, a London punk band, now led solely by Charlie Manning, is set to release the upcoming album And Then There Was… in a month. Renowned drummer Jonah Falco from Fucked Up, a frequent collaborator, serves as the producer. The band has already unveiled the early singles “The Bonnie Banks” and “To Be Young.” Today, they introduced a fresh track titled “Cocaine Sunday.”

Unlike typical tracks about cocaine, “Cocaine Sunday” showcases Charlie Manning delving into emotional balladry reminiscent of Tom Waits and Shane MacGowan. Manning’s rough vocals lament over a backdrop of a solitary piano and harmonica, expressing remorse: “This world weighs me down like a cocaine Sunday, I’ve always been a criminal, I won’t see no pearly gates.” Manning explains the genesis of the song:

Regrets flood in when I wake up on a Sunday, realizing the past days have slipped away in vain. This song speaks of the sorrow felt not just in the moment but also in the long run. Lost love. Lost friends. Regret. Yet, the only solace is to push forward, live the destined life, and not let Sundays pass me by.

In the music video directed by Nick Suchak, Charlie Manning is depicted indulging in solitary day-drinking. Watch it below:

The album And Then There Was… will be available on 10/4 via Flatspot Records.
