While the Lightning Bolt band prepares for a fall tour, its members are also engaged in individual projects. Brian Gibson recently launched his VR video game Thrasher along with its soundtrack. On the other hand, Brian Chippendale is unveiling a new album under Black Pus.
Terrestrial Seethings is set to be released in October. The lead single, “Hungry Animal,” showcases a bold drum-centric approach with Chippendale’s vocals cutting through the chaos alongside an intense bass line. Chippendale revealed the inspiration behind the song’s creation during a session at Machines With Magnets studio.
While driving to Machines with Magnets, I suddenly found myself humming a tune, just a 15-minute drive from my home. The idea struck me out of nowhere. I rushed into the studio to Seth [Manchester] and suggested we start by recording this idea instead of jamming, and it all came together rapidly. The lyrics were influenced by conversations I had with a friend battling depression. I aimed to convey a message of resilience, urging to persevere and find comfort in the positive aspects of life.
