James Cargill, the sole surviving member of the renowned dream-pop group Broadcast, announced the release of two demo collections earlier this year. The first collection, Spell Blanket – Collected Demos 2006-2009, was released in May. The second collection, Distant Call – Collected Demos 2000-2006, is set to be released next month, coinciding with what would have been Trish Keenan’s 58th birthday and marking the final release from Broadcast.
Distant Call primarily features demos of tracks that later appeared on Broadcast’s albums Haha Sound and Tender Buttons. They have already unveiled the demo of “Tears In The Typing Pool,” which retains its beauty from the studio version. Alongside familiar tracks, the compilation will include several unreleased songs, such as “Come Back To Me,” which is being shared now. The track was created as part of a 2006 project where Broadcast invited fans to submit lyrics on a postcard for incorporation into a final song. “Come Back To Me” showcases Broadcast’s folk-inspired style, highlighting Keenan’s soft vocals accompanied by a lovely acoustic guitar. Listen to the track below.
Distant Call – Collected Demos 2000-2006 will be available on 9/28 through Warp.
