Olivia Osby, known as Olivia O, has been a presence in Lowertown since 2018. She recently collaborated on the project Child Star with Sean Henry and is now gearing up to release her sophomore solo album titled No Bones, Sickly Sweet. The lead single from the album, “One Hit Wonder,” is out now.
Explaining the song’s inspiration, Osby shared, “‘One Hit Wonder’ delves into self-deprecation, pondering ‘what if’ scenarios, and our innate tendency towards schadenfreude. I wrote this during a time of deep self-disgust, regret, and compulsive fixation on past decisions.”
No Bones, Sickly Sweet was predominantly written, recorded, produced, and mixed by Osby herself. Reflecting on the album, she said, “There’s a peculiar empowerment in the act of self-destruction, where you dictate the terms of your downfall. Many fear risking self-destruction and prioritize self-preservation, even if it means suppressing their true identity.”
The somber undertones of “One Hit Wonder” are evident. Despite the darkness, the blend of raw guitars and Osby’s nonchalant delivery is both captivating and melancholic. You can listen to it below.
