Analysis of PLAYYTIME’s Latest Track “Deadman” on TunesDeck

PLAYYTIME – “Deadman”

A year ago, Zulu dropped “Where I’m From,” a song featuring guest vocals from Soul Glo’s Pierce Jordan and Obioma Ugonna, the frontman of Atlanta hardcore band PLAYYTIME. This marked my introduction to PLAYYTIME, though they have a respectable history, having released an album named The Fun Never Ends back in 2020. Today, they unveil their latest track, “Deadman,” their first release following that album.

“Deadman,” the newest offering from PLAYYTIME and a preview of their upcoming EP titled Deadman Tapes, starts as a forceful midtempo hardcore track, but takes an unexpected turn as shoegaze-like melodies unexpectedly surface, adding a unique twist. The convergence of these contrasting heavy guitar tones is surprisingly harmonious. Give it a listen below.

Deadman Tapes is scheduled for release on 8/30 via Rope Bridge Records.
