Xiu Xiu unveiled their upcoming album 13″ Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto With Bison Horn Grips earlier this year and dropped the captivating track “Common Loon.” Today, the enigmatic band presents “Arp Omni” and “Veneficium.”
The album’s eerie opener, “Arp Omni,” is paired with a visualizer directed by Lin You, while the upbeat “Veneficium” comes with a video directed by Luke Orlando. Band leader Jamie Stewart described the concept behind the songs:
A Veneficium refers to being poisoned, making magic potions, or crafting toxic substances. It involves risky and transformative pursuits that can lead to unknown and unsettling places. The process can be perilous, possibly resulting in psychedelic experiences or inspiring benevolent acts.
Orlando shared his perspective:
The video delves into the absurdity and intricacy of modern human connections, initially inspired by the concept of doomscrolling, but evolving into a more esoteric and engaging narrative with Xiu Xiu’s influence. The final piece celebrates finding community through shared interests and creative expression. This project allowed me to collaborate with close friends, creating unique visuals and narratives without constraints, a rarity in the industry.
