Exploring the Collaboration Between Asake and Travis Scott on “Active”

Asake has been preparing for the release of his upcoming album in a remarkable way. Recently, the Nigerian artist revealed the tracklist for Lungu Boy, his third studio album, set to drop on Friday, August 9.

To build anticipation, he has now unveiled a new single from the album, and it’s a significant one. Renowned American hip-hop artist Travis Scott is featured on “Active,” with production credits from the respected Sarz and Mike Dean. The combination of their detailed production skills along with Travis’s dynamic style creates a standout track that is sure to be a hit.

Asake has been making waves with his fusion of South African genres, particularly amapiano, blending it with the complexities of Nigerian music. This unique blend has been successful on his previous albums, Mr Money With The Vibe and Work of Art, with Magicsticks handling most of the production duties on both projects.

In Lungu Boy, Asake’s sonic direction remains a mystery, but “Active” hints that he may continue to explore the musical territories he has mastered. The track exudes a warm vibe, featuring DJ scratches reminiscent of early hip-hop days, creating a seamless fusion of different elements.

Asake leads with his distinct lyrical style, delving into themes of strength and movement implied by the title. Travis Scott adds his atmospheric vocals, blending well with the dramatic drum patterns reminiscent of house music. His departure from his usual sound towards Asake’s style adds a layer of depth to the song.

With a recurring vocal sample from “Raise Da Roof,” a 2006 track by Jazzman Olofin and Adewale Ayuba, the single showcases Asake’s commitment to incorporating Nigerian artistic traditions into his work, this time drawing from Fuji, a stylistic element he has prominently featured.

Leading up to the release of Lungu Boy, “Active” serves as a strong preview of what Asake has achieved through collaboration with various creatives, from producers to visual designers. His versatility and capability to juggle multiple roles demonstrate his active presence in the music scene.
