Margaret Chardiet, under the project Pharmakon, returns with a new album called Maggot Mass, following the 2019 release of Devour. The intense lead single “WITHER AND WARP” is now available.
Chardiet shared that Maggot Mass delves into the discordant connection between humans and the environment, highlighting themes of loneliness and accountability.
The album raises questions about privilege, the true cost of comfort, and the value of life amidst self-imposed isolation. It challenges the concept of human worth tied to material accumulation and power, urging a shift towards honoring the interconnectedness of all beings.
Chardiet emphasized the need for a deeper connection to nature and a reevaluation of societal structures that prioritize profit over preservation.
The album’s lyrical approach diverges from past works, incorporating rhymes, traditional poetry structures, and a more direct voice to engage the listener. Chardiet also explores new vocal techniques, blending strain with melody.
Unlike previous compositions, the music in Maggot Mass embraces traditional song structures, featuring solos, bridges, verses, and choruses alongside experimental noise elements.
Maggot Mass tracklist includes:
01 “WITHER AND WARP”
02 “METHANAL DOLL”
03 “BUYER’S REMORSE”
04 “SPLENDID ISOLATION”
05 “OILED ANIMALS”
The album will be released on 10/4 through Sacred Bones.
