Justin Timberlake, a renowned American singer-songwriter, and record producer, has been temporarily prohibited from driving in New York after facing DUI charges. The pop star, currently touring in Europe, virtually appeared in a Sag Harbor courtroom, where he denied a charge of driving while intoxicated related to an incident on June 18.
During the virtual hearing from Antwerp, Belgium, Timberlake pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge brought against him.
The judge decided to suspend Timberlake’s driving privileges in New York as he had refused to undergo a breath test at the police station following his arrest. However, the duration of this suspension was not explicitly stated. This legal development came after Justin Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., attempted to dismiss the case last week by pointing out inaccuracies in the initial charging documents from the arrest.
Subsequently, the judge instructed the singer-actor to be formally arraigned based on the revised paperwork presented by the prosecutors. During the Friday hearing, Burke retracted his previous motion to dismiss the case. Furthermore, Sag Harbor Judge Carl Irace criticized the attorney for his prior statements in the media following the July 26 hearing, characterizing them as ‘irresponsible.’
Judge Irace cautioned Burke about potentially facing a gag order if he persists with such comments and advised that Timberlake might be required to appear in person for future court proceedings. Another hearing is scheduled for August 9, which Timberlake will not need to attend.
