Ripped To Shreds, the San Jose death metal band, gained attention with their 2022 Relapse Records debut album 劇變 (Jubian). Following this success, the band is set to release a new album called Sanshi, named after spiritual worms in Daoist folklore that reside in the human body.
The lead single from the new album is titled “Perverting The Funeral Rites, Stripping For The Dead,” drawing inspiration from unique funeral customs in Taiwan where exotic dancers perform rituals for the living and the deceased. The intense track is accompanied by a visually striking video directed by JR Shih featuring spikes and swords. Band leader Andrew Lee comments on the song:
With “Perverting…,” we aimed to deliver our darkest and most intense material yet. The song highlights our new live performance style with alternating vocals and solos. We chose to film the video in Taiwan with a Daoist priest to complement RTS’ narrative songwriting approach.
