Lael Neale – Exploring the Concept of “Electricity” through Music

Lael Neale – “Electricity”

In her latest single, “Electricity,” indie rock musician Lael Neale delves into the disorienting yet grounding experience of losing power. Co-written with Guy Blakeslee, the track exudes an old-school feel reminiscent of Joni Mitchell with organ drones and shakers akin to Stereolab.

Neale personally directed the video, featuring her in a captivating mirrorball unitard performing choreographed dance moves. Reflecting on the inspiration behind “Electricity,” Neale shares:

During an ice storm on my family’s farm in Virginia, a power outage lasting five days led to a profound realization. The lack of modern amenities like lighting and entertainment triggered a mix of emotions from emptiness to liberation. Unplugging allowed me to view life from a different perspective and reset myself as an electrified being in a digital age.

While experiencing a similar power outage during the storm, the impact was less enlightening for me and more of an inconvenience. Nonetheless, the song captures the essence of the experience. Watch the “Electricity” video and catch Lael Neale at her upcoming tour dates detailed below.
