New Album Announcement: Hemlock Ernst Drops “Studying Absence”
Samuel T. Herring, known for his role in Future Islands, marks a decade since his memorable Letterman performance. Shifting focus to his rap project, Hemlock Ernst reveals a new album titled Studying Absence, produced by Icky Reels.
The album’s lead single, “Raised In The South,” is now available. Exploring a different sound, Herring collaborates with Icky Reels, portraying a more industrial and acidic musical landscape. Herring shares, “I decided to accept the challenge of breaking down the beats, challenging the rhythms, and finding the voices.”
Reflecting on the content of Studying Absence, Herring delves into personal themes such as lost histories, relationships, abuse, addiction, and Southern influences. He touches on the complexities of identity and memory, weaving a narrative of self-discovery and reflection.
The album tracklist includes “Raised In The South,” “Break Time In The Factory,” “Exhuming The King,” “Hold The Wires On Ellis,” “Old Dead Dogs,” “Persimmons,” “Remains Of A Memory,” and “Testify.”
Studying Absence is scheduled for release on 10/16 under Tygr Rawwk Rcrds.
