GIFT, a Band To Watch, will be releasing their upcoming album “Illuminator” next month. Leading up to the album release, the psych-pop group has already put out singles like “Wish Me Away,” “Going In Circles,” and “Later.” Now, they have unveiled a new track called “Light Runner.”
The accompanying music video for “Light Runner” is visually captivating, reflecting the song’s otherworldly vibe. The video was directed by TJ Freda, the band’s vocalist and guitarist, who drew inspiration from Madonna’s “Ray Of Light” album and music video while working on “Illuminator.” Freda expressed that “Light Runner” represents emerging from darkness, embracing transformation, and celebrating personal victories.
Interestingly, psych-pop bands seem to have a shared admiration for Madonna’s “Ray Of Light,” with Pond even covering the song in 2019. GIFT’s music pays homage to the 90s UK music scene, drawing from the influences of bands like Primal Scream, Massive Attack, and Oasis.
The album “Illuminator” is set to be released on 8/23 through Captured Tracks.
