In the fall of 2022, the ’90s alt-rock band Superdrag reunited for the first time in twelve years at Knoxville’s Second Bell festival. Although the group had initially set out to work on new music a year prior, that plan transitioned into a new solo project for John Davis. This endeavor, titled JINX, is set to release in September, veering away from the intended new Superdrag album following 2015’s Industry Giants.
With Stewart Pack as the producer and his son Henry as the engineer, JINX encapsulates the talents of both, who also feature as drummers on the album. Davis mentions, “Stewart Pack has been a hero of mine for about 30 years. He was the guitarist and the singer in my favorite Knoxville band ever, Pegclimber.”
Reflecting on JINX, Davis shares, “I’ve been writing songs for a long time and my process has never really changed. I just try to open my heart up and whatever’s in there, that’s what you get.”
Presently, Davis presents the lead single from JINX named “The Future.” Be sure to give it a listen below.
JINX will be available on 9/27 through Lost In Ohio Records.
