After their 2022 album God’s Country gained underground acclaim, Chat Pile from Oklahoma City is back with a new album, Cool World. Their upcoming release delves into America’s place in the world on a broader scale compared to their previous work. The band collaborated with Ben Greenberg from Uniform to mix the album, a first for them. According to frontman Raygun Busch, Cool World continues the thematic exploration seen in God’s Country, focusing on disasters at home and abroad and their interconnected impact. The album, in Busch’s words, addresses the consequences of American indulgence, notably in sugar consumption.
The first single, “I Am Dog Now,” is a raw, intense track that showcases the band’s aggressive energy. Accompanied by a gritty music video directed by Will Mecca, the song’s visuals complement its visceral lyrics. Bassist Stin describes how the video aligns with the song’s essence, capturing a lurid, unsettling aesthetic reflective of the American South. The imagery in the video includes references to the band’s namesake, the actual chat piles.
Cool World is set to release this fall, coinciding with a tour alongside Agriculture and Mamaleek, both signed to the Flenser label. The album features tracks such as “Shame,” “Frownland,” and “The New World” among others. The tour dates span various cities, including Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Nashville, offering fans a chance to experience Chat Pile’s energetic performances.
