Hazel Onou, popularly known as WhiteMoney, a Nigerian reality TV star and singer, believes that his music resonates more with audiences in other countries. The winner of Big Brother Naija ‘2021 ‘Shine Ya Eye’ suggested that Nigerians’ lack of understanding contributes to the lukewarm reception of his music in his home country. In an interview with Sunday Scoop, WhiteMoney emphasized that his passion for singing is an inherent part of him and shared that he draws inspiration from the Holy Spirit.
While many recognize him for his culinary skills displayed on BBNaija, WhiteMoney pointed out that cooking is his passion, whereas music is his talent—a talent he has proven through his work.
He expressed,
“Music has always been a part of me, and I have been pursuing it for a considerable time. I approach it with passion, drawing inspiration from the Holy Spirit and my surroundings. My music tells stories derived from my experiences and observations. I create ‘conscious’ music.”
“My conscience guides my artistry. I am intentional about avoiding vulgar or disparaging lyrics. My songs are uplifting and relatable. When I listen to my music and find it aligns with my values, it motivates me to continue.”
“I understand that some Nigerians have preconceived notions about me, limiting their acceptance of my music. They may prefer to associate me solely with cooking due to my time in the BBN house. However, I am multi-talented. While I cherish cooking as a passion, music is my true talent, a fact I have demonstrated in various ways.”
“Presently, I believe my brand holds more promise beyond Nigeria than within the country. I feel misunderstood by Nigerians who are unfamiliar with my essence. Therefore, I aim to expand my brand internationally through my music, cooking, and other endeavors.”
